FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do you deliver and collect the boats? – Yes the price includes delivery and collection of boats and equipment.

  • How do we get back to the start when the trip ends? – Group transport is not included in our hire and guided trip prices. However we can usually help with collecting your groups driver/s from Yalding when delivering boats to Tonbridge or bringing them back to Yalding when collecting boats at Allington. Alternatively there are rail stations closeby or local taxi services providing 4/6/9 seaters. Contact us to discuss and we’ll always help wherever we can.

  • What’s the difference between Hiring and a Guided Trip? – A guided trip gives you the piece of mind that you’ll have a qualified coach/leader to look after the groups safety on the river. They will provide some basic tuition at the start of the trip to help you complete the journey and they also know the river and can offer advice on the way.

  • Can we camp anywhere along the river? – No. There are several campsites along the River Medway and camping on some of the locks is allowed although there are no facilities. Visit the Medway Canoe Trail website for information on camping options.

  • Do I need to be fit? There are various trips available, some requiring higher degrees of fitness than others. We can advise on various options to suit you.

  • Do we need to book in advance? At peak times (summer weekends) we suggest you book as far in advance as possible, particularly if you are a large group.

  • Is there a maximum number you can cater for? Usually we can cater for 30 at anytime. If you have a larger group please call to discuss your requirements as we can link up with other local providers to cater for larger groups.

  • What equipment do you provide? We provide boats, paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets and dry containers. Helmets are supplied and recommended for when you are going down the canoe passes on the Tonbridge to Yalding route.

  • What should we bring on a trip? Usually food and drink and suitable clothing for the weather conditions on the day. This link provides a recommended kit list.

  • How many people can go in a canoe? Our 16’ canoes will accommodate 2 Adults and a small child. For 3 Adults or 2 Adults and 2 children you will need one of our 17’ canoes fitted with 3 seats.

  • Is there a minimum age? We usually say 10 or over but this is also due to ensuring we have properly sized equipment for younger children. Please discuss with us if you have younger children.

  • Do you offer half day hire rates? We only offer daily hire rates as the drop/off collection is the same regardless of the duration of hire.

  • Do you need a license to paddle on the river. Yes you do and these are included and displayed on our boats.

  • Do you offer discounts for large groups? Yes for guided trips for a group of 10 or more we offer a 10% discount

  • Do you hire all year round? Yes we do but we may ask for some additional information about previous experience/intended routes if you are wanting to hire at times of the year where we judge conditions would be unsuitable for novices.

  • How can I find out if you have availability? We regularly update the Calendar on the Home page so you can easily check availability.

  • Can we bring our dog? We do allow dogs in our canoes but we do not provide bouyancy aids for them and they should not be tied to the canoe when you are on the water.
